Adapting E-commerce to Diverse Mobile Technologies

The ecommerce is evolving at a rapid pace specially in the times of Covid-19. Shopping algorithms have changed. Various countries have implemented additional guidelines to complete online product deliveries. Most of the population prefers mobile shopping.

It is only possible with the help of a smartphone which is technically can run those ecommerce shopping app. Is it possible to do mobile ecommerce with a normal range keypad phone? We are talking about shopping online without a smartphone and with a standard mobile.

This seems to be an impossible proposition because a normal phone does not have features like payment gateway and the E-commerce UI.

how this can be possible?

Middle class and lower middle-class population have switch to smartphone and have been disturbed their monthly budget. Does innovation only means introducing new technology with an increase rate for gadgets? Do companies not have a responsibility to build such systems where all these electronic goods can be affordable to the lower income group people.

We are not talking about products that can be purchase under easy monthly instalment scheme. What we are analyzing is would there be a system where your normal range of products can have features that is viable and affordable to people who cannot afford high end technological gadgets.

For instance, is it possible to do mobile shopping with a $50.00 or $80.00.?

Or is it possible to introduce Ecommerce features in a good branded phone worth $150

Or has anybody purchased any product online from a phone less than $150 dollars?

Technological innovations specially in mobiles phone companies are just increasing the cost of the product. Sometimes, companies reintroduce an old version under a new name at a higher price, adding just one or two additional features.

Innovative technology should be based on a value and revenue-Based Approaches model and not only on a revenue-based model.

How it can be achieved?

Cut off the unwanted features (software)

For example, in a phone costing Rs. 5000 there are social media apps say, Facebook, twitter etc. The screens of such small phones are not designed to run high-end apps that regularly exchange text, videos, and photos, resulting in high mobile data usage.

Replace unwanted apps and install Ecommerce app and make a software where a person can shop online through a normal $100 phone.

Often such unwanted apps do not provide value for money and good user interface experience.

The crux is, apps should be installed for user’s daily usage and the consumer should feel satisfied and content.

During pandemics like COVID-19, mobile shopping has surged, but primarily on high-end smartphones. If companies had considered this, regular phone users could have ordered goods from their keypad phones at home.
